i have been watching video interviews for inspiration for our interviews when we get around to making them. i have been researching in particular female-fronted and mixed-gender bands, like ours, in the pop punk/alternative genre. we hope to complete both formal and serious and informal and fun interviews.
paramore
the laidback, informal style of interview is one that we can easily recreate. it would be fun and not too much preparation would go into it. we could invent our own questions and have fast in my car playing quietly in the background as that would be our 'debut hit'.
we are the in crowd
this is a fun and creative way of interviewing with personal questions and is more like a game than a formal interview. we could imitate the white background and let our 'fans' get to know us.
tonight alive
this interview is more formal with interjections of their new music video. we could achieve this in front of, for example, the green screen or a plain background and we could also use it to promote our new music video for fast in my car.
inspiration - website
two websites i took inspiration from when creating ours were paramore and we are the in crowd's. the first thing i decided on was the link bar at the top of the website and what it should include.
we chose to include photos, videos, and a store, taken from both websites, and added a 'contact us' taken from the we are the in crowd's website.
our store has the same layout as paramore's, with a grid featuring pictures of our merch (which we hadn't uploaded at that moment in time). our photo page also has the same layout.
our contact us page is based around we are the in crowd's 'connect' page, involving each individual member's twitter account and all of the band's accounts.
inspiration - style
for our music video we would love to replicate the styles of wes anderson, sofia coppola, gia coppola and spike jonze. particular examples of their work that we would love to emulate are wes anderson's 'hotel chevalier', sofia coppola's 'the virgin suicides' and gia coppola's 'palo alto', spike jonze's 'her' and his music video for arcade fire's 'the suburbs'. all of the aforementioned pieces have a specific style or colour scheme that we would consider replicating in our music video.
spike jonze's 'her' - 2013
gia coppola's 'palo alto' - 2013
sofia coppola's 'the virgin suicides' - 1999
arcade fire - 'the suburbs (2013)'
wes anderson's 'hotel chevalier' - 2007
to accurately integrate these influences into our video, we will all wear brightly coloured clothing and alter the video with a muted filter.
inspiration - final video
the 1975's 'girls' music video is a huge inspiration for our music video in its aesthetic - beginning in black and white and descending into exaggerated colours. we hope to begin our music video in black and white and switch to full colour when the chorus kicks in.
arctic monkeys' 'r u mine' music video is also a significant inspiration as most of the video takes place from within a car. due to the title of our song choice, we aim to incorporate a car into our video by attaching a go-pro video camera to the dashboard of dom's car to shoot scenes for our a2 music video.
similar artists and genres
paramore
despite being a paramore song, which we are trying to stray away from, this is the kind of video that we would love to replicate. it has a fun and upbeat nature as well as a colourful background.
panic! at the disco
this video is very flamboyant and odd which we would love to emulate. it is very upbeat and the performance shots integrate with the narrative of the video which is something we are striving for.
my chemical romance
this band and their style are not particularly like alleyways and what we are hoping to achieve with our style, however the creation of their music videos is something that we can draw inspiration from, for example the energy they performed with and their initial use of a handheld camera.
lip sync task
we filmed the lip-sync task featuring my (overly-sassy and terrible) lip-singing to our chosen song for practice and to get a feel of what to do and how to improve, and also featured dom and jonathan as guitarist/bassist. to improve, i need to open my mouth more, stop staring into the distance and stop moving so much!
group timetable
dom created a timetable so we can decide when to film footage for our a2 final music video outside of school.
X = not available for filming.

what music means to me
the songs that have resonated with me across the years and have influenced my music taste today:
1. puddle of mudd - she hates me
2. all time low - poppin' champagne
3. state champs - simple existence

final choices
our final 3 track choices are as follows:
1. fast in my car - paramore
why this would be good: it is a fun, upbeat song that we had lots of visual ideas for. no one else in the year had chosen anything in the rock/alternative genre so it would be a different and exciting idea.
what could go wrong: paramore are such an iconic band with a very well-known image, thanks to their lead singer, hayley. we would have to stray completely away from this image and recreate an entire female-fronted band.
2. feeling good - nina simone
why this would be good: it would be the most interesting to do: a bluesy, jazz song set in a dusky 40s bar with smoke, cocktail dresses and a soulful singer. our made-up band would be a soul/jazz band, which is a very different interesting idea.
what could go wrong: it is extremely hard to emulate simone's soul in the face of seventeen/eighteen year old schoolkids. we would struggle to make it look realistic and doing it justice.
3. no scrubs - bastille
why this would be good: there are a mixture of voices: a male and female singer are present so would include more input than others with a solo singer.
what could go wrong: the song is quite slow and the video could end up being a bit dull. also the singer of bastille has a very recognisable, distinguishable voice so it would be hard to pretend like someone else was singing it.

track choices
paramore - born for this
genre: alternative
Paramore's song 'Born for This' was my first choice. It is an upbeat, rocky, in-your-face song by a strong female-fronted band with a distinctive and unique, youthful but powerful voice.
i imagined a performance video with a band in an empty, dark warehouse with spotlights and fairylights dotted around everywhere. in verses there would be a shot of the singer, alone in a darkened room with a spotlight and heads popping into the spotlight during the gang vocals 'i'm not letting go, oh'
daniela andrade - i will follow you into the dark (cover)
genre: indie/acoustic
the video for this song would be a narrative video centered around an old couple with flashbacks of when they were younger and interjections of performance shots of the artist sitting in the corner of a completely white room with a guitar. the video would have to be very emotional and centred around one member of the couple dying, with the other promising to follow them soon.
