digipak research

the digipak i have created is heavily influenced by other covers in all rock genres and subgenres. i wanted a simple cover just stating our name. i don't think, as a small, up-and-coming band, we could put pictures of us on it as it wouldn't attract people; maybe for bigger bands, who are well known, this would work better. the following covers are all rock bands of different kinds with plain sleeves.

the pictures below show the foo fighters' digipak for echoes, silence, patience & grace. it is very simple and plain with quite dull colours and inside are pictures that match the one on the front. i think simplicity is beautiful, eye-catching and adds a certain element of mystery.

below is brand new's deja entendu. this inspired having our name directly above the plain picture. the colours are striking and again, the astronaut floating in what appears to be space is captivating and mysterious.

finally, this is the sleeve that inspired me the most that i wanted to emulate: real friends' maybe this place is the same and we're just changing. the plain white font contrasting against the plain, almost uninteresting picture is beautiful. real friends are a small, relatively new band like alleyways: using their faces would not have attracted an audience. the colours are quite bland which causes a contrast with their bright white font to draw attention only to the band and their album name.
